You’ll never guess what researchers found, possibly on your kid’s toothbrush! As reported in MedicalNewsToday.com, a study published in the journal of the American Society for Microbiology identified fecal matter on more than 60% of toothbrushes collected from students’ communal bathrooms, most of which was likely spread from other bathroom occupants.

Parents! Tell your kids to watch their sanitary habits when sharing a bathroom! The article recommends that students…
- Avoid sharing toothbrushes (We think this is wise.)
- Do not cover toothbrushes or store them in closed containers (This breeds bacteria, of course!)
- Replace toothbrushes at least every 3-4 months (Great advice for anyone!)
- Rinse toothbrushes thoroughly with tap water after use and allow to air-dry. (We’d say this is the least you can do.)
In addition, GreatNewMe! recommends you tell your kids…
- If the sudden urge arises to actually clean the toilet, do NOT use your own toothbrush. Use someone else’s.
- Replace your toothbrush with a new toothbrush, not a used one from your roommate.
- Keep your toothbrush out of the stream of unsanitary liquids, especially after a frat party.
- How about, after brushing your teeth, take your toothbrush with you out of the shared bathroom and avoid the whole darned problem!
